All too often academic counselors mismatch students and graduates for all sorts of reasons and this is a problem in America. Too many people get into ill-suited lines of work and are not fulfilled, challenged or used to their best ability.
This is a travesty and indeed Plato would not approve at all. Each and every individual in a civilization or society should do what they do best and thus we all win in the end with best efforts from everyone and this increases efficiency in a nation. We would be wise to listen to such sound philosophical advice and thus get more out of each individual and allow these individuals a sense of accomplishment and achievement or fulfillment.
When we force or coerce students and graduates into degree programs or industries they are not suited for we end up with wasting resources. And that is simply inefficient, pre-forewarned and self-defeating. Many academic counselors are using decision matrix grids put together 10-years the prior and do not take into consideration the minds, development of the brain and the ever-changing interests of their clients.
All this leads to a disaster where currently 80% of all graduates are working in industries other than what their degree is in and that quite frankly is just stupid you see, obviously we can do better than this, if we would just concentrate more on how we place or suggest placement during career and academic counseling. Consider this in 2006.
